Learn Reiki in Weston-super-Mare
Reiki is a gentle, hands-on way of working with universal life energy, and learning it is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself. At the Diamond Light School of Healing in Weston-super-Mare, Debbie Thorne has been teaching Reiki since 2013 and working as a holistic therapist since 1997. Courses are held in small groups in her calm home training space at 7 Whitecross Road, with plenty of time for practice, questions and a cup of tea.
This page explains the different Reiki courses, how the levels fit together and which one is the right place for you to start. The next dates are listed further down.
The Reiki pathway at a glance
- Usui Reiki Level 1 & Holy Fire III. For complete beginners. You learn to give Reiki to yourself, your family and friends, with meditation, crystals and Reiki philosophy, and receive a certificate, manual and journal. Level 1 course
- Usui Reiki Level 2 & Holy Fire III. For people with a Reiki 1 certificate. You learn the Reiki symbols and distant healing, and can practise as a Reiki practitioner with paying clients. Level 2 course
- Reiki Master Level 3. Deepen your own healing and work with the Master symbol. Choose a one-day Master Level 3 with Holy Fire III, or Master Level 3 with an optional Teacher day and mentoring.
- Reiki Master Teacher. The complete three-day Usui and Holy Fire III Reiki Master Teacher course, for people who have practised Reiki 2 for at least six months and would like to teach.
Already trained but out of practice? The one-day Reiki Refresher with Holy Fire III upgrade is for anyone with Level 1, 2 or 3 who would like to reconnect, update their practice and receive a fresh placement. Reiki 2 students can also come along to a relaxed Reiki Development Day, and everyone is welcome at the free Reiki Share.
Usui Reiki, Holy Fire III and Angelic Reiki: what is the difference?
Usui Reiki is the original system of Reiki, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early twentieth century and passed from teacher to student ever since. It is the foundation that most people learn first.
Holy Fire III is a development of Usui Reiki. Debbie teaches her Usui courses with the Holy Fire III energy included. Instead of traditional attunements, Holy Fire III uses placements and ignitions, and the Master Teacher course covers the Holy Fire symbol and how to pass these on to your own students.
Angelic Reiki is a separate healing system that works with the energy of the angelic kingdom and the Ascended Masters. It is taught in two stages: Angelic Reiki Practitioner Level 1 & 2 and Angelic Reiki Master Level 3 & 4, under the Angelic Reiki Association. What a Reiki course with Debbie is like
- Small groups. Courses are kept small so everyone gets hands-on practice and individual attention.
- A calm, homely space. You learn in Debbie’s home training space in Weston-super-Mare rather than a hired hall, with lunch and refreshments included on many courses.
- Practice, not just theory. Each level includes plenty of time giving and receiving Reiki, meditation and group discussion.
- Certificates and manuals. Each Usui level comes with a certificate and a training manual.
- Support afterwards. A 21-day self-healing practice is encouraged after Levels 1 and 2, and you are welcome to join the healing group and Reiki shares to keep practising.

Reiki course questions
Do I need any experience to start Reiki?
No. Usui Reiki Level 1 is designed for complete beginners. All you need is an open mind and a wish to learn.
Which Reiki course should I start with?
Start with Usui Reiki Level 1 and Holy Fire III. Once you have your Level 1 certificate you can move on to Level 2, and then to the Master levels when you feel ready. If you are drawn to the angels, Angelic Reiki Level 1 and 2 is another starting point.
Can I practise Reiki professionally after training?
Level 1 lets you give Reiki to yourself, family and friends. Level 2 is the step that lets you work as a Reiki practitioner with paying clients and offer distant healing.
I trained years ago. Do I have to start again?
Not necessarily. The one-day Reiki Refresher with Holy Fire III upgrade is designed for people who already have Level 1, 2 or 3 and would like to update and reconnect.
Where are the Reiki courses held?
Courses are held at Debbie’s home training space, 7 Whitecross Road, Weston-super-Mare BS23 1EP, close to the seafront and town centre. The location is also shown on each course page.
Is Reiki a medical treatment?
No. Reiki is a complementary practice for relaxation and wellbeing. It is not a replacement for medical care, so please keep seeing your GP for any health condition.
